В далеком 1930 году немецкий археолог Гюнтер Редер раскопал нижнюю часть статуи, изображавшую фигуру древнеегипетского фараона Рамсеса II, также известного как Рамсес Великий. Это одна из самых известных фигур в истории Древнего Египта — он правил империей с 1279 по 1213 год до нашей эры, что сделало его одним из самых долго правивших фараонов в истории. Почему древняя статуя, высота которой могла достигать роста 3–4 человек, была расколота надвое, никто понять не мог. Поиски ее верхней части велись на протяжении почти 100 лет, и вот наконец-то дали результаты. Часть огромной статуи с изображением лица Рамсеса II была найдена на территории древнего города Гермополь, который сегодня представляет собой музей под открытым небом.

По данным научного издания IFL Science, потерянная часть статуи Рамсеса II была найдена совместными усилиями археологов из Египта и США. Открытие совершилось случайно, во время раскопок на территории древнего города Гермополь, недалеко от современного населенного пункта Эль-Ашмунейн.

Это историческое место находится примерно в 250 километрах от египетской столицы Каира. В древние времена Гермополь являлся одним из самых главных религиозных центров. В городе располагался культовый центр бога мудрости и знаний Тота. Сегодня древние сооружения уже разрушены, и на исторических землях находится музей под открытым небом.

Ученые нашли статую Рамсеса II
Верхняя часть статуи Рамсеса II была найдена во время поисков религиозных сооружений. На протяжении многих лет лежала под слоями песка. После раскопки оказалось, что его длина составляет 3,8 метра, то есть, если соединить две части статуи, получится фигура высотой примерно в 7 метров. Статуя изображает фараона в головном уборе с изображением королевской кобры. Фигура сделана из известняка, на задней части иероглифами нацарапаны надписи, возвеличивающие фараона.

Что сделал фараон Рамсес II

Место захоронения Рамсеса II впервые было найдено не учеными, а расхитителями гробниц.
