Вблизи города Гриндавик на полуострове Рейкьянес в Исландии 14 января произошло извержение вулкана. Лава вырывалась из трещин в земле и подошла к окраине города, в результате чего было разрушено три дома. Населенный пункт оказался под угрозой уничтожения, но, к счастью, извержение прекратилось. Однако говорить о том, что катастрофа миновала Рейкьянес, пока рано. Метеорологическое бюро страны сообщает о том, что новые мощные извержения могут поразить полуостров. Причем приборы показывают, что это может произойти в ближайшие недели, дни или даже часы.

Извержение вулкана в воскресенье произошло после серии небольших землетрясений и деформаций грунта. Лава вырвалась около 8 утра по местному времени из трещины в земле длиной 900 метров. Напомним, что в Исландии часто встречаются трещинные вулканы. Они не имеют привычного жерла, так как лава у них вырывается сквозь трещины в земле. Они образуются перед самым извержением из-за высокого давления, образованного лавой, газами и паром.

Лава на острове Рейкьянес вырывалась из гигантской трещины
Как сообщает метеорологическое бюро Исландии (IMO) в своем заявлении, уже в 15:00 по местному времени в понедельник поток лавы из одной из трещин остановился, а из второй трещины существенно замедлился. Однако под полуостровом все еще наблюдается движение магмы. Ученые предполагают, что новые трещины могут возникнуть без какого-либо предупреждения. Именно так и возникла вторая трещина. На измерительных приборах не было зафиксировано никаких сигналов о том, что в этом месте произойдет извержение.
Также сотрудники IMO обнаружили, что Данные GPS зафиксировали увеличение потока магмы. Кроме того, земля все еще продолжает подниматься. Это говорит о том, что вероятность появления новых трещин и нового мощного извержения очень высока. Однако ученые до конца все еще не могут понять, что на самом деле происходит.

Первое извержение вулкана в Исландии произошло еще 18 декабря
В воздух поднялись шлейфы магмы, а также столбы пепла и дыма. Объем вырывающейся лавы составил 100-200 кубометров в секунду. Это было достаточно интенсивное извержение, однако активность вулкана очень быстро замедлилась, и в конечном итоге полностью прекратилась. Но, спустя менее месяца произошло еще одно извержение.
Нынешняя вулканическая активность является частью тысячелетнего вулканического цикла, который может длиться столетиями. То есть в течение длительного времени могут периодически происходить извержения вулкана. Несколько лет назад произошло первое за 800 лет извержение другого вулкана, известного как Фаградальсфьялл.
Геологические данные говорят о том, что периоды затишья могут длиться от 600 до 1000 лет. Затем они сменяются периодами извержений, максимальный период которых достигает 500 лет.
