Недавнее исследование, проведенное на трупах свиней, показало, что даже при экстремально низких температурах можно точно определить время смерти человека по нескольким видам бактерий: Psychrobacter, Pseudomonas и Carnobacterium. Следует отметить, что трупы свиней разлагаются так же, как и трупы людей. Поэтому их часто используют в судебно-медицинских исследованиях.

Как сообщают исследователи, вышеупомянутые бактерии позволяют определить ДНС на протяжении шести месяцев после смерти с погрешностью около девяти дней, что является высоким показателем. Это означает, что процесс разложения тела не прекращается даже при низкой температуре, достигающей -40 градусов по Цельсию.
Разработанный учеными метод еще не используется в судебно-медицинской практике, однако по мнению авторов работы, в скором времени микробы могут стать важнейшей частью в разгадке головоломки, связанной с определением времени смерти людей даже в самых экстремальных условиях.
