В случае с упомянутой в начале статьи Весной Вулович, ее спас толстый слой снега, который заметно смягчил падение. Она лежала среди обломков самолета, и жители немецкой деревни оказали ей первую помощь и передали спасателям. Она получила перелом черепа, трех позвонков, обеих ног и таза. После лечения на протяжении 16 месяцев, она продолжила работу в авиации.

Помимо снега, смягчит падение могут густые деревья, склон со множеством растений, а в некоторых случаях и вода. Разумеется, упав с высоты нескольких десятков метров человек все равно получит серьезные повреждения, но шансы на его спасение будут выше.

На выживание также сильно влияет то, под каким углом падает человек. Выше мы уже выяснили, что падать на воду нужно ногами вниз. При падении на деревья тоже может спасти падение ногами — восстановить их впоследствии не получится, но человек хотя бы останется жив. Также авторы издания IFL Science утверждают, что человека может спасти падение на бок. Самое главное, не удариться со всей силы головой и сохранить позвоночник.

Еще один удивительный случай выживания после падения с большой высоты был зафиксирован в 2007 году в Нью-Йорке. Тогда братья Алсидес и Эдгар Морено были заняты мытьем окна одного из небоскребов. Они были облачены в страховочные костюмы, однако строительная люлька оборвалась и они упали с высоты 47 этажа со скоростью 190 километров в час. После падения с 144 метров выжил только Алсидес Морено, а его младший брат погиб. Мужчина сломал обе ноги, правую руку, ребра, повредил позвоночник и пробил легкое. К счастью, после нескольких операций он смог выжить, и впоследствии даже принял участие в благотворительном забеге. Итак, при падении с большой высоты человек может выжить благодаря мягкой поверхности вроде толстого слоя снега, густых деревьев или воды. Очень важно беречь голову, однако в экстремальных ситуациях принять правильное решение бывает очень сложно — многое зависит от удачного стечения обстоятельств. Так что лучше всего полностью обезопасить себя от любых падений, соблюдая правила предосторожности и используя страховку. Важно понимать, что умереть от падения можно даже поскользнувшись в собственной ванной, поэтому осторожность нужна везде.
