За последние 200 лет в странах Европы значительно повысилось качество жизни населения во всех аспектах, от снижения избыточной смертности и инфекционных заболеваний, до доступа к качественной пище. Очевидно, это спровоцировало повышение среднего роста населения. Особенно сильны скачок наблюдался с 1914 года, что коррелирует с повышением уровня жизни, которое происходило примерно в это же время.
Важнейшим фактором, связанным с улучшением уровня жизни, по мнению ученых, является питание. Однако влияние качественного питания на рост может быть нивелировано болезнями, стрессами и тяжелым физическим трудом.
Страна с самым высоким населением
Уже долгое время самыми высокими людьми считаются голландцы. Средний рост мужчин в Нидерландах составляет 182,5 см, а рост голландок в среднем достигает 168,7 см. Для сравнения, средний рост мужчин в России не превышает 176 сантиметров, а женщин — 163,7 сантиметра.
