Из всего вышесказанного следует, что для строительства дорог на Луне нужно использовать материал, который там имеется, чтобы не доставлять его с Земли. На поверхности спутника, как известно, выбор не так велик — в распоряжении космонавтов будет только лунный реголит. Именно его ученые и предлагают использовать.
Как показало недавнее исследования, реголит отлично подходит в качестве покрытия для дорог. Единственное, его необходимо спекать, как мы это делаем с глиной для производства кирпича. Естественно, строить на Луне классические печи для производства дорожных плит, слишком сложно и дорого, к тому же они требуют много энергии. Но эта проблема тоже решаема.
В своем исследовании авторы работы провели эксперимент с использованием мелкой серой порошкообразной пыли, разработанной космическим агентством как симулятор лунного реголита. Она представляет собой смесь минералов в таких же пропорциях, как и в настоящем реголите. Для спекания пыли авторы работы задействовали лазер, в котором электрический ток проходит сквозь углекислый газ.

Исследователи запекли аналог лунного реголита при помощи лазера
Эксперимент показал, что данная технология имеет право на существование. При спекании реголит образует гладкую твердую поверхность, которая подходит для использования в качестве дорог. В лабораторных условиях ученые смогли рисовать лазером различные узоры на поверхности пыли. То есть, теоретически, можно создавать плитку разной формы.

Остается открытым вопрос — где взять на Луне электрический лазер и насколько он должен быть мощным? По мнению исследователей, можно обойтись даже без лазера. Как известно, на естественном спутнике Земли присутствует большое количество света. При помощи линзы из него можно создать направленный пучок.
В лабораторных условиях ученые экспериментировали с разной мощностью лазеров, чтобы найти оптимальную температуру для спекания реголита. Результаты говорят о том, что оптимальную температуру вполне можно получить на поверхности Луны при помощи крупной линзы и солнечного света. Для этого подойдет линза Френеля площадью всего 2,37 квадратных метра.

По мнению авторов, разработанная ими технология позволит создавать плитку диаметром 250 мм, которую можно использовать для создания мощеных дорог и даже посадочных площадок. Об этом исследователи сообщают в издании Scientific Reports. Однако они планируют поработать над технологией, чтобы обеспечить еще более высокую прочность покрытия.
