В чем опасность батареек и аккумуляторов
Внутри герметичной оболочки любой батарейки или аккумулятора имеется электрическая схема из катода и анода в среде электролита. В результате химический реакции между щелочами или тяжелыми металлами, такими как ртуть, кадмий, свинец, никель возникает напряжение, или, правильнее сказать, разность потенциалов.
Вряд ли стоит говорить о вреде некоторых из вышеперечисленных металлов, особенно таких как ртуть и свинец. Правда, не во всех элементах питания они присутствуют. Наиболее опасными являются аккумуляторы (перезаряжаемые батарейки), так как в них содержатся наиболее токсичные тяжелые металлы.
Больше всего токсичных веществ содержится в аккумуляторах
В обычных же бытовых батарейках, которые используют, например, для пультов, детских игрушек или фонариков, присутствует цинк и марганец. Эти металлы хоть и токсичны, но не оказывают такого серьезного вреда для здоровья, как ртуть и кадмий. Надо сказать, что ученые уже изобрели вообще безвредные батарейки, но в продаже их пока еще нет.
Что будет если хранить дома старые аккумуляторы
Аккумуляторы и батарейки выполнены в герметичном корпусе поэтому, когда они новые, не представляют опасности для здоровья и окружающей среды. Однако со временем корпус может разгерметизироваться, например, из-за увеличения аккумулятора в объеме. Как известно, после исчерпания ресурса они начинают “вздуваться”.

Не всегда целостность корпуса старого элемента питания можно определить визуально. При разгерметизации же токсичные пары попадают в воздух, что может стать причиной ухудшения здоровья. Особенно опасны токсичные испарения для детей и домашних животных, но также могут пострадать и взрослые люди, если постоянно находятся в помещении, где в воздухе присутствуют токсичные испарения.
Например, свинец накапливается в почках, вызывает расстройства нервной системы и даже заболевания мозга. Ранее мы рассказывали, что воздействие свинца на организм в детстве приводит к преступному поведению человека во взрослом возрасте. Кадмий накапливается в щитовидной железе, печени и почках. Он является канцерогеном, который вызывает раковые заболевания.
Ртуть является сильнейшим ядом, который относится к первому классу опасности. Ртуть накапливается в тканях всех органов, вызывает нарушения слуха и зрения, поражает мозг, нервную систему, органы дыхания и пр. Но, надо сказать, что в последнее время производители аккумуляторов отказались от использования ртути.
Старые батарейки могут выделять в окружающую среду диоксины
Следует понимать, что воздействие токсичных элементов проявляется лишь со временем. Как сообщает Роспотребнадзор, микродозы отравляющих веществ из аккумуляторов накапливаются в тканях длительное время, иногда это происходит в течение многих лет. Постепенно они начинают разрушать организм.
Почему нельзя выбрасывать аккумуляторы и батарейки
Корпус аккумуляторов и батареек под открытым небом, к примеру, на свалке начинает разрушаться еще быстрее. Отравляющие элементы вначале проникают в почву, а затем попадают в грунтовые воды. Это приводит к отравлению водоемов, в том числе и тех, откуда осуществляется забор водопроводной воды.
Также загрязнению подвергается почва, на которой произрастают сельскохозяйственные культуры. Считается, что одна батарейка способна загрязнить 16 квадратных метров почвы или 400 литров воды. Однако люди продолжают активно выбрасывать батарейки и аккумуляторы.
Батарейки и аккумуляторы необходимо сдавать в специальные пункты приема
По данным Роспотребнадзора, только на свалках Москвы ежегодно скапливается около 15 миллионов батареек. Среднестатистическая семья в год выбрасывает порядка 500 граммов батареек. Поэтому суммарно в год в столице скапливается несколько тысяч тонн отработавших элементов питания.

Чтобы не допустить колоссального загрязнения окружающей среды, батарейки и аккумуляторы следует сдавать в специальные пункты приема. В последнее время в супермаркетах для этого установлены специализированные урны. Оттуда они отправляются на перерабатывающие предприятия, где происходит их утилизация с минимальным вредом для окружающей среды. Кроме того, чтобы меньше вреди окружающей среде и самим себе, старайтесь использовать перезаряжаемые батарейки. Они даже экономически выгоднее, так как служат длительное время.
