Так, в ходе миссии «Юнона» астрономам удалось провести детальное исследование атмосферы ледяного спутника Юпитера Европы, а результаты одной из последних работ, опубликованной в журнале Nature Astronomy, показали, что поверхность этой луны производит меньше кислорода, чем считалось раньше. Напомним, что данные миссии «Галилео» подтвердили наличие подо льдом Европы океана, в котором содержится примерно в два раза больше воды, чем в океанах Земли. Кроме того, модели, составленные на основе полученных данных, показывают, что океанское дно Европы находится в контакте с горными породами, что делает эту луну главным кандидатом по поискам жизни. В ходе миссии также были обнаружены поглощающие ионы – атмосферы планет состоят из нейтральных частиц, но верхняя часть атмосферы становится «ионизированной» (то есть теряет электроны) под воздействием солнечного света и в результате столкновений с другими частицами образует ионы (заряженные атомы, потерявшие электроны) и свободные электроны.
