Акулы-призраки — древние глубоководные рыбы
Акулы-призраки, они же рыбы-крысы, относятся к группе рыб, известной как химеры. Обычно они обитают на глубине от 500 метров и больше. На самом деле они не являются акулами, а лишь дальние родственники известных нам акул и скатов. Как сообщают ученые из Национального фонда морских заповедников, эти хрящевые рыбы разошлись около 400 миллионов лет назад, то есть задолго до того, как рыбы стали выходить на берег. Это делает химер эволюционно одними из старейших рыб, но, вполне возможно, что они эволюционировали и отличаются от своих предков. Как мы недавно рассказывали, живых ископаемых существует не так много, но они все же встречаются.
Характерной чертой этих рыб являются большие блестящие глаза и заостренные тела, напоминающие крыс. Отсюда и такое их название — рыбы-крысы. Некоторые виды вырастают до внушительных размеров — имеют длину тела около двух метров.

Химеры населяют континентальные склоны и океанские хребты, где питаются донными существами — моллюсками, ракообразными и пр. До недавнего времени ученым было известно только 53 вида химер. Теперь же, благодаря недавнему исследованию, опубликованному в журнале Raffles Bulletin of Zoology, их 54 вида. Возможно, их существует еще больше, однако из-за особенностей среды обитания, новые виды трудно обнаружить.
Новый вид акулы-призрака
У берегов Таиланда акулы-призраки встречаются крайне редко. Единственный экземпляр был обнаружен в 2018 году на глубине 772–775 метров в Андаманском море. Изначально ученые предположили, что рыба относится к виду Chimaera aff. macrospina. Однако впоследствии генетические исследования и морфологический анализ показал, что обнаруженная рыба является новым видом.
К слову, название новому виду, то есть Chimaera supaae, было присвоено в честь профессора Супап Монколпрасит, ученой, которая всю свою жизнь посвятила изучению хрящевых рыб в таиланде и умерла в 2013 году.

Особенностью Chimaera supapae является необычный вид, который отличает ее от других видов. К ним относится большая голова, но при этом короткая морда, а также большие овальные глаза. Как сообщается в исследовании, голова занимает почти треть от общей длины рыбы. Глаза имеют переливающийся зеленый цвет. Тело рыбы окрашено в темно-коричневый цвет, не имеет полос и пятен.
Еще одна особенность Chimaera supapae — широкие грудные плавники. По мнению исследователей, такие плавники могут быть связаны со способностью рыбы маневрировать по скалистому дну с высоким рельефом.
